At 74, I’m just getting started!

This summer I learned to play golf, and this winter I’m going to learn how to ski!

I’ll be honest: I’m a terrible golfer. But I LOVE it. Being outdoors, the fresh air, the exercise, and most of all, the wonderful people I’ve met along the way. My scores on a 9-hole course went from 70… to 60… to 53! There’s a long way to go, but I’m improving, and that’s what counts.

My secret? Just go. Just do. I joined charity and benefit tournaments. You support a good cause, nobody cares how you play, and you meet the greatest groups of people.

Now I’m bringing that same enthusiasm to the slopes. I’m counting down the days, and yes, I’ll be posting pictures of my very first run (wobbles and all)!

If you’ve ever thought about trying something new, start planning now. Look for a ski club in your area. They’re a fun, diverse group of people, and they welcome non-skiers too! It’s really about the community. They plan ski getaways, weekly get-togethers, and plenty of laughs.

It’s never too late to learn something new. See you on the mountain!

If you’d like it shorter for a quick post, or with more humor or more emotion, I’m happy to adjust it.

here are a list of best ski slopes for 60 plus and free days offered in the US

Free ski days for everyone

These are rarer, but Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has “Free Skiing Sundays” every season. onthesnow

A tip for this season: many popular resorts have limited senior deals that sell out quickly, while smaller, less corporate resorts often offer the best value. Smaller hills also tend to be calmer and less crowded, which helps when you’re learning. aol
