Activities for Adults Over 60
Outdoors, Stay Active and Meet New People
Are you looking for enjoyable ways to stay active, spend time outdoors and meet new people? Let’s Get Up and Go is creating a welcoming community for adults 60 and older who want to continue exploring, participating and making meaningful connections.
Our activities will initially focus on hiking, biking and golf, with new choices added regularly as the community grows. Whether you have enjoyed these activities for years or are interested in trying something new, you are invited to participate at your own pace.
You do not have to be an expert or competitive athlete. Our goal is to help real people enjoy shared experiences in a friendly, comfortable environment.
Outdoor Activities That Bring People Together
Staying active is easier—and often more enjoyable—when you have someone to join you.
Many adults find that opportunities to meet people naturally become less frequent after retirement, a move to a new community or a change in their daily routine. It may be difficult to find someone who wants to take a walk, explore a trail, ride a bike or play a casual round of golf.
Let’s Get Up and Go is designed to help make those connections possible.
Our activities provide a reason to leave the house, discover something interesting and spend time with people who share similar interests. An outing may begin with a hike, bike ride or round of golf, but it can lead to conversation, laughter and new friendships.
Hiking for Adults Over 60
Hiking is one of the simplest ways to enjoy nature, explore your surroundings and stay active. It can be a peaceful walk on a level trail, a scenic route through a local park or a more challenging climb for experienced hikers.
Let’s Get Up and Go will feature hiking opportunities for different interests and ability levels. Whenever possible, activity descriptions will include helpful details such as trail distance, approximate time, elevation, terrain, difficulty level and recommended supplies.
This information can help you decide whether a particular hike is right for you.
Our goal is to highlight easy hiking trails for adults over 60, beginner-friendly walking groups and scenic hikes for active older adults. We also hope to include more challenging options for experienced hikers who want a longer or more adventurous outing.
Hiking with others offers more than exercise. It gives people time to talk, appreciate the scenery and share an experience without the pressure of a formal social event. Conversations often develop naturally while walking side by side.
Whether you enjoy mountain views, lakeside paths, wooded trails or neighborhood walks, hiking can be a wonderful way to reconnect with nature and meet new people.
Biking and Recreational Cycling
Riding a bike can bring back a sense of freedom and fun that many of us remember from childhood. It is also an enjoyable way to explore a community, travel along scenic paths and stay active.
Our biking activities will focus primarily on social and recreational rides rather than competition. We want to feature opportunities for traditional bicycles, electric bikes and different experience levels.
Some members may be confident cyclists who regularly ride several miles. Others may be returning to biking after many years and prefer a shorter, slower ride on a paved path. Both should be able to find appropriate opportunities.
Listings may include the expected distance, pace, route conditions, hills, traffic considerations and whether electric bikes are welcome. Safety information, helmet recommendations and rest stops should also be provided whenever available.
Beginner bike rides for active seniors can help people regain confidence in a supportive setting. More experienced riders may enjoy longer outings that combine exercise, scenery and conversation.
The purpose is not to see who can finish first. It is to enjoy the ride and the company.
Golf Without the Pressure
Golf is both a sport and a social experience. It gives people an opportunity to spend time outdoors, enjoy friendly conversation and connect over a shared interest.
However, joining an established golf group can sometimes feel intimidating, particularly for beginners, occasional players or someone who has recently moved to a new area.
Let’s Get Up and Go wants to make social golf outings for adults over 60 feel more approachable.
Golf opportunities might include casual nine-hole rounds, beginner-friendly outings, driving-range meetups, putting events, golf lessons and full rounds for more experienced players. We may also feature charity tournaments and public courses offering special rates.
You do not need a low handicap to participate. You simply need an interest in playing and a willingness to enjoy the day.
Clear activity descriptions will help members understand the expected skill level, cost, location, pace and equipment requirements before signing up. This allows everyone to choose an outing that feels comfortable.
Golf can be a particularly good way to build friendships because players spend several hours together. There is time to talk, laugh, encourage one another and enjoy being outside—even if every shot does not go exactly as planned.
New Activities Will Be Added Regularly
Hiking, biking and golf are only the beginning.
As Let’s Get Up and Go grows, we plan to add new activities based on the interests of our members and the opportunities available in different communities. These might include walking groups, kayaking, pickleball, skiing, fitness classes, live music, theater, festivals, day trips, travel, book discussions and casual coffee gatherings.
We want members to help shape what comes next.
If there is an activity you already enjoy—or something you have always wanted to try—tell us about it. Your suggestion may inspire a future outing and help you meet others who share that interest.
By adding new activities regularly, the website can remain useful, interesting and responsive to the community.
Find Activities and Make New Friends
Let’s Get Up and Go is about more than filling a calendar. It is about creating opportunities for people to participate in life and connect with one another.
You might join because you want to stay active, explore a new trail or improve your golf game. Along the way, you may meet someone who enjoys the same music, has traveled to the same places or understands what it feels like to begin a new chapter.
There is no pressure to attend everything. Start with an activity that interests you and participate at a level that feels right.
If you are new to the community, come as you are. You do not need to bring a friend or already know other members. Helping people make those first connections is one of the reasons Let’s Get Up and Go exists.
